Why Are We Here? (Shaun)
Falling victim to your own success. What helped you become successful and get you where you are will eventually become your weakness.
Story Time (Kolby and Shaun)
- When we first came into our new role many initiatives, shifting focus constantly, and trying to change everything.
- Things this led to:
- Meeting rhythms
- Tacticals, strategics, standups, oh my!
- Denoting certain focus points on certain days
- F tacticals
- W o3’s
- We became very good at owning our calendars
- Every single bit of time accounted for and fully utilized
- Mucho productivity
- Meeting rhythms
- Flash forward – bye bye agility
- We’ve become so strict with our calendars it’s hard to accomplish anything together
- Getting schedules sync-up up is always a week out minimum.
- Even though our rhythms are in sync, we’ve fully utilized every minute of our days.
- We have no buffers or room for the spontaneous.
- What’s our lesson learned?
- We have to become intense and intentional with our time, even when it appears to be full.
- Having a full calendar does not mean your focussing on the right things
- We have to become intense and intentional with our time, even when it appears to be full.
- Real world next actions
-
- Review calendars and ask: “Can we delegate it, move it, or do we really need it?”
- Are there any efficiencies we can gain? Can we combine a meeting or instead of a meeting have an email? Reduce meeting time from an hour to 30 minutes or 30 to 15?
-
- It’s easy to fall victim to your own success
- This extends not only to meetings but personality, taking opportunities, being driven etc.
